3D milling generally

E-mail Print PDF

Here we show you photos and videos of work pieces which have been milled with our machines only. In most cases software PCNC or WIN PCNC Economy (part of the delivery scope) has been used.

3D-milling is probably the most interesting subject, when dealing with machining solid material. Within this page we will always show you new examples. Starting with the simple machining of just one side up to Scanning with a 3D sensor and 3D-machining with the 4th axis, almost all following examples have been produced with software PCNC, which is part of the delivery scope.

3D milling with a High-Z CNC router in foam and wood

On the left you see a flacon milled in polystyrene with a 3mm radial router. Of course you can mill a piece as such in perspex or timber.

You design a 3D-Cad model, generate a dxf File using e.g. Desk Proto in a DIN ISO file format, that’s it. Depending on selected dissolution you get rough or absolutely clean surface in the final resulte.

Conversion program: Desk Proto from Filou.

Here you find a video of the reproduction of a chin piece for a violin. The file used was generated with our 3D Scanner.

3D operations with hard-foam

The museum Albersdorf run by Mr. Arnold produces landscape-reliefs made of hard-foam for exhibitions using a High-Z S-400. The models seem absolutely authentic.

Exihibits are partly up to 300x400mm large with a depth of up to 50mm.

Thank you very much for the pictures from Albersdorf museum

Pictures and videos of a 3D-treatment in aluminium.

We work with a 3mm radius router, 5mm depth of cut, 1mm roughing

After a smoothing phase with     0,5mm the sculpture looks almost .......polished. Video: Sculpture milling in aluminum

That’s the direct way to the rotary axle tool (more pictures and videos).

Example for 3D milling with our High-Z S-720 (customer photographs)

Many thanks to Mr. W. from the Netherlands who supplied these photographs.

Applications for model making:

The first photos and videos of 3D travels in Styrodur.

We would like to present the milling of a sculpture in styrodur for you here. It is particularly suitable for demonstrations because it is possible to mill it with huge depth of cut.

We waived the smoothing here.

The stl-file was uncomplicated converted in a millable DIN ISO file within few steps by DeskProto with giving of some parameters like milling depth, router diameter or shaft length

3D milling with a High-Z S-720 CNC Milling Machine in hard beech

For producing prototypes the first model is usually milled of a tangible material. Ply-beech is also   very suitable, since the material will have a smooth surface finish.

Here you find a video about 3D operations in beech.

The surface finish is already polished. Time necessary for the complete works is around one hour using a D8mm radial-drill bit.

Construction and NC-programming of this piece was done by using software by SCHOTT SYSTEMS. At this stage we would like to thank Schott-Systeme for the file. More information to follow soon.

3D milling in POM plastics

3D milling operations are quick and clean z.B. in POM. This kind of plastic is very hard and therefore most suitable for milling operations.

On the left you see a prototype of an airplane wing. Obviously statues or figures can be reconstructed. Many thanks to the company Filou, who have supplied this file.

Video: Milling of a small model airplane. Processing time aprox. 40 minutes.

Files are easily produced e.g. with Turbo Cad or Becker 3D and then converted into a file format that can be read by PCNC or WIN PCNC. File conversion can be done with e.g. Desk Proto Lite in a DIN ISO.
